Modern-day Belgrade, Serbia. A different city from the one it was just over twenty years ago: fast-paced, capitalist, in the throes of a transformation that’s seeing it become an international destination famed for its nightlife and parties. For many who live and work the city’s nights, including bartender for an up-market club Marko, the difference between past and present, day and night, is more than just temporal. Told from Marko’s perspective, Afterparty is a story about modern-day Belgrade and its residents. Afterparty, which has its UK premiere at Raindance after screening at the Belgrade Film Festival earlier this year, is writer / director Luka Bursac’s second feature film (his first being the sci-fi film Blackness in 2014, which also played at Belgrade). The film is well-shot by cinematographer (and regular collaborator with Bursac) Dusan Grubin, and particular praise must also go to the film’s soundtrack: club-inspired, thumping, heavy and perfectly mixed with the action.
