Anatomy of a Male Ballet Dancer is a documentary centred on the life of Marcelo Gomes. The film takes you back through his journey of becoming one of the best male ballet dancers in the world and how a young boy from Brazil has become the dancer every ballerina dreams of working with.
Marcelo’s main love is partnering with a new ballerina; as all the great male dancers humbly are aware, during partner work you are there for her, and your purpose is to make her shine. Being one of the greatest in the game, Marcelo has a unique and selfless style admired by all.
The entire film celebrates Marcelo as not only an outstanding dancer, but as a man who will do anything to achieve his dream and to live his life with happiness and joy at the forefront. In a way, Gomes reminds one of a ‘real-life’ Billy Elliot: impassioned and uplifted by his art, he makes it easy to fall in love with the intricate and demanding ballet.
