In 1970’s Scotland, a new wave of talent and entrepreneurial spirit was rising up. Amongst the mundane routines of an economically stagnant country, the youth were craving a creative outlet. From a flat in Edinburgh’s city centre a new generation of musicians and record label producers were born. They would bring us the post-punk and Indie music scene that would put Scotland on the map and would inspire some of our greatest and most loved bands. This was a moment in music history where ordinary people would break conventions in a bid to create something new and provocative. There was a hunger for freshness and a desire to drive the next new wave of sound. Concepts were key and bands brought confidence and charisma to stages around Great Britain that would leave audiences awe struck. ‘Big Gold Dream’ is a documentary full of fun and nostalgia. The faces from a fertile time in music litter scenes and bring back that sense of excitement and discovery that was palpable in 1970’s Scotland. With snippets of iconic sounds and black and white stills of ground-breaking bands, this documentary is a celebration of the making and marketing of a movement within music.
