Elvis Martini is no saint. During the first few moments of ‘Cash Only’, he’s deliberately setting fire to a house. Flash forward two years later, Elvis is being sentenced at a court case; it turns out he tried to commit insurance fraud on his own house for quick cash, only to realise that his wife was inside. Torn by the ‘accident’, the death of his wife still hangs over his head; this Albanian-American film explores the consequences of his loss. Now a single father barely making ends meet, Elvis owes money to a local bookie. As a landlord, he’s desperate for his tenants to pay what they owe, despite letting a renter grow pot and another live without paying a dime. But things take a turn for the worse after his daughter is abducted and held for ransom. Can the anti-hero turn things around for the sake of his family? The gritty setting sets a bleak tone for the crime thriller, written by and starring Nikola Shreli as Elvis. Ultimately, the story is about a man who does everything in his power to save the only person he cares about, showing a shred of humanity to his macho exterior.
