While buying a rare part for her uncle's boat in Istanbul, Djam, a wild, streetwise bohemian Greek girl, meets Avril, young French woman who’s been recently robbed. The two embark on a journey back to Greece, delayed and lengthened by workers’ strikes and curious encounters on both sides of the border. Djam's tone changes and transitions from scene to scene while sustaining the atmosphere of libertarianism contrasted with the harsh reality of a world in financial decay, unable to deal with the migrant crisis. The problems of an individual are the problems of many, but will the protagonists fit in this broken universe or will it change who they are and how they feel? Does freedom come at a price? Yet another exhilarating musical experience from Tony Gatlif, Best Director winner at Cannes in 2004, who has created a multilayered road movie about true freedom, set in the rubble of crisis-stricken Greece and Turkey. Thanks to Daphne Patakia's absolutely captivating performance you will not be able to look away that easily... this time. Adam Samuel Court
