Boxing-crazy Emmanuel Pacquiao, or as his mother calls him ‘Uel’, sets out on a brutal journey, risking everything, to become a champion in the sport he has been passionate about since childhood. Pacquiao grew up with very little before his success, trying to survive in the slums from one day to the next. After his father disappears to live with another woman, the boy grows up fast: he has to learn to help and provide for his family and unwell mother. With so many obstructions to his dream, humbled Uel seizes the opportunity to reach his goals without telling his loved ones, who he thinks would only hold him back. His strongly religious family are left praying for his wellness and safety, receiving letters and money from him at every chance as his career progresses. This picturesque, well-structured, superbly shot film perfectly depicts Pacquiao’s courageous childhood. Unlike any other film based on the boxer’s life events, this one dates back to where his dreams began, narrating the initial stages of a true hero.
