How much stuff have you got in your life? Most people can number the things they own in the thousands and are constantly on the search for the next consumer fix – a better phone, a shinier car, a bigger house. But how much stuff do you actually need? Consumerism and the industries that it feeds are making us miserable and driving us to a hamster-wheel of work, paycheck, advertising and spending. Minimalism is no longer an art style, for many people it’s become a lifestyle and credos. Meet the people who get by on the bare necessities, from those who live in 100-square-foot ‘tiny homes’ to those who have gotten rid of anything they can’t physically carry. It might seem that the by-line ‘a documentary about the important things’ is a cheeky joke, but the practise of minimalism proves that it’s much more than that; by cutting down on superfluous physical and mental needs, we can put more focus and energy on what truly matters in life: our mental wellbeing and our loved ones. Matt D’Avella’s eye-opening documentary will give you a new perspective on life.
