Ines Tanovic brings us this gloomy insight into Bosnian life for a post-war family which transpires to be a universal tale of the importance of family that any audience member will be able to relate to. Marija's dedication to her wayward daughter and lethargic ex-soldier son Saša is recognizably sickly sweet, contrasting well with moody father Muhamed's constant moaning and chastising. To him, war is an “excuse” for the young former soldiers and he doesn't waste any opportunity to tell his son how he is fed up of providing for him. When Marija is diagnosed with cancer, she at first only confides in Saša, placing much-needed responsibility on his shoulders that allows him to step out of his depressive routine and show a blossoming maturity. With the secret brutally exposed during an argument with his father, Saša finds himself in a role reversal; preparing his mother's recipe, and finally uniting with his father to get the job done. A story which gently unfolds, expressing the pressures of modern life with subtle tension. Romance and a “fuck money” revelation sees this family come out of their ordeal with heads held high.
