“In a future that never was”, Diego is an inventor working for Emmett Industries. When his romantic trip to repair his relationship with Laura, the woman he loves, goes disastrously wrong, he decides to create a time machine so that he can correct his mistakes. But changing the past has consequences, especially when it’s slowly filling up with multiple travellers from the future.
The film begins with a promotional video for Emmett Industries which sets the tone perfectly. Dress, voiceover and synthesized music rooted firmly in the 1970’s, relentlessly upbeat, but hilariously oblivious to the complexities of basic morality. The film’s retro setting with it’s sinister, robotic vendors and it’s cumbersome technology is modelled on 70’s Hollywood’s vision of the future, but with all It’s references to the time-travel themes of Hollywood blockbusters, Melocotones can be best described as a Sci-Fi farce, an enjoyable romp which is thoroughly original.
