An intimate portrait of 46-year-old prima ballerina Wendy Whelan at the one of the most testing moments of her life. Whelan dedicated her life to ballet from an early age and danced with the famed New York City Ballet for 30 years, working with choreographers such as George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Christopher Wheeldon and Alexei Ratmansky. Restless Creature: Wendy Whelan, named after her own 2012 collaborative dance project, tracks Whelan’s life and career as the natural, physical problems of a lifetime of exertion begin to creep up on her. She still yearns to dance, but her body has to learn its new limits. Linda Saffire and Adam Schlesigner’s warm documentary gets close enough to paint a detailed portrait of the dedicated dancer: a woman with an iron will, an unstoppable passion and an endearing warmth and sense of humour. As one chapter in her life closes, Whelan begins to write anew, and we’re invited to witness this special moment in her life. Natalia Bolek
