Zak is grief stricken after the sudden and tragic loss of his parents. He is about to finish his physics diploma but with his world crashing down around him he yearns for solitude and space. Before their death, his parents were set to sail the family boat. With this in mind, Zak fills his rucksack with beans and broth and sets out on foot to reach the sea. Unwillingly Zak finds himself accompanying a stranger who is lost and in need of a companion. Lucka is eccentric, erratic and talkative. She is insistent that Zak is in need of a crew member and follows his every move. The two strangers board the boat and begin what will be a journey of discovery, acceptance and appreciation of what may be. ‘Paradise’ is a bitter sweet love story about sorrow, companionship and self-discovery. There are sweeping shots of the ocean, moonlit waves and setting sunsets. The whole film is visually arresting and beautifully poignant and will leave you yearning for an adventure. Klemen Janezic and Ajda Smrekar co-wrote and star in this two hander, and as a duo they have produced impeccable work both in their writing and in their performances.
