Based on true events, Selling Isobel is a harrowing story of survival about a woman who is kidnapped, drugged and raped by several men over 3 days and 2 night before finally escaping. Tricked into her captor's apartment under the guise of a photo shoot, the initially wary Isobel is lulled into a false sense of security by his friendly professionalism and chirpy assistant, but when she returns for her call back she's met with an altogether more sinister scene. Director Rudolf Buitendach cranks up the tension expertly throughout the film, making full use of Gabriel Olds's talents as Isobel's sadistic captor caught between his family and boss. Selling Isobel shines a much-needed light on the global sex slave industry - the fastest growing criminal business in the world, which accounts for the kidnapping of 20.6 million adults and children every year and takes in more than 20x Burger King's annual net sales. The film brings home the industry's prevalence in the cities we live and work in everyday, hiding only just out of sight.
