Sara is weird, all the kids in her class say so. So Sara is a loner: she reads, she listens to music and she smokes, all on her own. Until one day her solitude is invaded by Andrea, who not only becomes her only friend, but becomes someone she is truly close to. This is the story of a young woman learning to inhabit her own sexuality within a family and a society that is unwilling to accept it. A story about coming out in its most literal sense. Beautiful cinematography gives a sense of closeness to the central characters of Sara and Andrea, the short run-time shouldn’t fool anyone into thinking that their story isn’t given room to breathe. The central relationship is depicted with care and intimacy, and allowed to organically develop from friendship to first love. Credit must go to Samantha Caicedo as Sara, who carries much of the burden of this story on her shoulders, but so to must it go to writer/director Micaela Rueda who has brought a brought such a personal story to life.
